On average approximately 20,000 day laborers seek employment in Los Angeles, approximately 117,000 nationwide. The majority consists of male Mexican and Central Americans. Due to Economic restructuring in their homelands and in the United States can help explain the proliferation of day laborers in the States. Xenophobia and the Latino immigrant have resulted in the formation of anti-immigrant groups and anti-discriminatory laws. The Pomona Day Labor Center is one of many centers nationwide that have united to promote peace, unity and tolerance.
I've included historical events that I had the honor to attend. What you see captures La Gran Marcha (The Great March) in Downtown Los Angeles which attracted over one million people, the NDLON (National Day Labor Organization Network) Marathon across the U.S. which gained publicity from news networks such as Univision and Photos of the Pomona Day Labor Center. While this has been a brief introduction to a complex subject..pictures speak louder than words...
Thanks to Mike Nava Executive Director of the Pomona Day Labor Center and Former Brown Beret!
